    Who here likes FORTRAN?

Ok I can't attest to the credibility of this here.........but it's pretty ironic......

"The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of
referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given
that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant.
This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change."

    >>> should the value of pi change

    Indeed!

Actually, yes, I liked FORTRAN. I used it pretty much daily from 1977 to 1996, but do not have a compiler right now.

Hehehe the value of PI changing isn't that a little odd? Oh man they should've used something else as a variable.

where "pi the number is constant", "pi the variable" can change. That's what they're refering to...due to space limitations you'll never be able to truly represent pi in memory...so you can see that the value stored in the variable might change. not that hard to imagine...
