    Searching for short words

    Hello,

Nice site, this, jolly useful. However, I'm having a spot of bother trying to search the forums for "bad output"- I get an error message telling me bad is too short a word when I type that in.. erm does anyone know how I can like, just do the search and get a result?

    Thanks!

Hmmm. I don't understand your question. Can you please provide some more information? For example, what error message are you talking about? Are you having a program that gives that message?

No Shiro, what he is saying is that if he does a forum search on bad output for example, he gets this message back from vbulletin

The search term you specified (bad) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
I also tried "bad output".... same message. Any thoughts?

Yeah, hit the nail right on the head with that.. is it just me or does this problem seem kinda far-reaching? I mean there must be hundreds of people who've got that same error message..

Well I guess the simple answer is don't use words of less than 4 letters, change bad for error or incorrect or something similar.
All spelling mistakes, syntatical errors and stupid comments are intentional.

Or use a asterisk as wildcard. For example "bad*".

The search index table for these boards is the biggest table for the whole database.........

    @ flashdaddee it is anyway....

VBulletin recommends 4 but and that going to 3 will dramatically increase the size of the database.....

A better option is to use the device between your ears to search with a more friendly keyword...

Oh and BTW, I've been to lots of boards and VBulletin's serch is about the best out there..........some boards I know are almost unusable due to the bad search facility........

How does google search for a certain word in like everytime it appears on practically the whole net in a fraction of a second, while it takes whole seconds for the DB to search through posts on a single forum?
