    Scope of Electronics Engineering...

    Hey,

I'm supposed to be taking Electronics Engineering (B.E.) and i don't know its SCOPE. Just, last night my uncle was asking me why i wanted to take electronics. I said that that's what i liked the most...I couldn't answer the scope related question though.

Any Electronic Engineers out there? Maybe you guys could help.

The EET students talk a lot about IEEE where I go to school. It's also more math intensive than CS at least where I go.

When you say "Electronics Engineering", I'm not sure what you're talking about. Electrical Engineering? IEEE? I've never heard of "ElectronICS" Engineering.

That sounds like robotics to me.

In India we have both electronics and electrical engineering.. The first one deals with semi conductors, fabrication, etc etc.. The second one deals with bigger parts...

Where I go, the engineerins stream also have to take some physics courses as well, a lot more than the CS students, they take one physics course.

by SCOPE i want to know what are the available jobs relating to the field...what are it's major applications...

Vasanth gave the right distinction b/w Electronics and Electrical .. same here

    We have the following subjects:

    Applied Physics,Chemistry,Thermodynamics
    Maths I,II,III,IV
    Industrial, Power, Digital Electronics
Bio-medical engineering, Computer Architecture and Organization, Electrical Circuit Design, Electronic Circuit Drawings, VLSI design....whole helll lots more...

    I'm doing electronics engeneering.

In Belgium the first two years are general. you get classes like physics, math, biology, thermodynamics and stuff like that.
then you have to make a choice: electronics, chemistry, elctrical, construction,...

I'm not sure what you mean with scope. But if you mean: what you can do later. Well, almost everything. you can do:
    - hardware: like Radio, TV,amplifiers,...
    - computer hardware: modems, ...
    - software
    - teaching
    - research
    -...

I've studied electrical engineering, I don't know if that is equal to your electronic engineering.

Beside a lot of math and physics there are some other subjects:
    - digital signal processing
    - analog signal processing
    - electrical networks
    - semiconductor technology
    - computer architecture
    - computer networks
    - analog electronics
    - digital electronics
    - ..

So the scope of electrical engineering is very big. Today a lot of electrical engineers are working in embedded systems, which is the vague grey field between software development and hardware development. But still there are also a lot of electrical engineers working in analog technology, analog technology will always be necessary. Just think about HF-technology (high-frequency) or about power supply.
