Everyone was shocked, but the question always arises, was this match fixed? Korea is the host nation, and they have never been known as a power house of soccer, and when the host country does better, more revenue for the host country.

    Unhappy

The harsh reality of it all, is that sports are getting mixed with politics and money, its just sad.

sure is, that's y i think countries with money shouldn't be allowed in the world cup! and participating countries shouldn't be allowed to host the games. This way, there will be a lot less cheating!

OK.. i might get hated for this but all this talk about Koreans being a .......... team and they cheat and they blah blah blah just sucks.

They bloody well know how to play and are a lot better than some other teams that are/were in the WC.

Its not that they are some pushovers which you can beat easily. They run like hell. They fight till the end. They score goals in the dying minutes beacuse they are determined to get the equalizers and the other team starts to relax because only a few minutes are left. So guess who is at an advantage??

Admitted that the Italians were unlucky to be left with 10 men but if you saw the match they werent doing so well with 11 either.
Vieri missed a lot of simple chances and IMHO it serves them right.

I can add more but this is enough.

[Check out the way the Koreans play their hockey and you all won't be so surprised]

    PS: Watchout Spain.

I agree with Ihsir. The Koreans played good and they showed they really wanted to win. They didn't give up and fought until the end of time. They just kept going and going. When I first saw them playing, I thought they were a bad team which could only run very fast and very long. But during the world cup they have shown to be mentally strong, have a good technique and know how to play football.

Though I was really suprised the Italian had lost. They are a really good team with a strong defense, good technique and they understand the tactics of football very well. They understand it better than the Korean, just because the Italian players and team have much more experience. Their Serie A used to be one of the strongest competitions in Europe.

So I guess it is a mix of the will to win and some luck.

I watched the match. I thought Italy were going to win.

Italy has struggled through the whole cup, never looking realy convincing. The S Koreans' wanted to win more, had more legs and speed.

I am glad that the Italians' tactics of defending a early goal, as so many other teams try, failed. It make a boring game where there is one goal and then the rest is defense.

The umpires have been left with no where to go after Rivaldos cheating in the Brazil Turkey match.

Totti went down in the box after a light challenge and openly appealed for a penalty or tried to trick the ref into giving the game to Italy. No comentator I have heard said it was a penalty. This left the ref little choice but to caution him, second caution is a red card.

We have had riots here in Aust over the Italian loss. (We are highest population of Italians outside Italy)

If this is the level of Italian sportsmanship then I say good riddence from the world cup. Complain all you like about this or that going wrong or the umpiring but don't take it out on the player/person doing their job well.

    Talk about a dummy spit!

From Perugia chairman Luciano Gaucci about the S Korean player Ahn who scored the winning goal.

"I am not extending his contract, he does not merit it," Gaucci said. "When he arrived, he was like a little lost goat who didn't even have the money to buy a sandwich. He became rich without doing anything exceptional and then, at the World Cup, he denigrated Italian football.

"I would have to pay three billion lire ($1.53 million) to extend his contract. But I won't.

"Ahn will never play for Perugia again. What do you think I would do? That I would keep a player who ruined Italian football. He should have shown his talent while he was with us. He'll just have to go back to Korea and earn 100,000 lire (about $48) a month."

He can always come here and play.
