The referee in the Italy/Korea match deserves to be shot, but he was fair, he made bad decisions both ways. There has been some talk about how the officials are chosen, apparently, all FIFA countries can contribute one, and ony one official. So you have countries that are routinely staging world class events with one referee, and countries that have rarely hosted an international with one. That seems kind of dumb to me.

Anyways, gripes aside. The Koreans played some adventurous, busy and occasionally inspired football, and the Italians looked like a spent force hanging on to their lead after half time, sorry, but true.

Totti should not have been yellow/red carded, but equally, the dive he made was not worthy of a penalty.

Probably an unpopular comment here, but I, for one, am glad one of the host nations got through to the next round. They have shown a real grit and determination that many of the "world stars" have lost.

ermmm maybe you do not follow wot i said.......the brazilian idea is to score more goals than you (like every body else), but they are so NAIVE cos they dont give a S**T if you score 3------they will believe they will get 4............it wont work against a better side...........

.....but will they stop flying forward? not a chance....their undoing, im telling you.

Anyhow, i have decided to go to bed at 5 pm on thursday night, get up 1 am friday morning, walk the dog, go to asda, have my dinner at 5am etc....the point............

ill be fighting fit with the stella's ready at 7.30 am for the england match.

We will all be on the beer then, and our bodies will kinda think it is early evening...........will this work you reckon?

and i forgot...............i am also glad a host nation have got through at the expense of the whining moaning italians....man, have you seen them complaining?

was it 16.....YES SIXTEEN shots at goal they had?

odds would have it that they'd have at least popped a few of them in.............

    blind bast***s

NOT the referees fault...remember this they are complaining of a conspiracy-but a refereee cannot fix a match all by himself.......

I was shocked when I heard that the USA even had a soccer team in the world cup.

Damn - 1-0 Germany... Well, we got farther than anyone expected (because how far would YOU expect someone that lost every game they played in the last world cup to get?), but it's over now. Good luck to the remaining teams - hopefully this raises awareness and the fanbase of soccer in America.

1-0... it was a victory, but not a nice one. German journalists used the words 'grottig' to describe our gameplay, which is somewhat hard to translate. Grotte is a kind of dark, murky cave. So grottig is like just crawled out of a dark cave, not even capable of bipedal upright movement. I've seen better games, only Kahn was excellent as always.

So Spain out to Korea. Interesting finals aren't they. I fancy Senegal against Turkey.

Germany certainly did not outplay the US - if Korea can survive the first half, then the longer the game lasts, the more likely I think the Koreans will score. They keep working right up to the final whistle - commendable.

I cant believe Korea beat Spain. I was hoping for a Spain Brazil final. Korea comes out of nowhere, and is making an unexpected run for the world cup.
