    Microsoft Rules

    I'm more convinced than ever. The .net framework does an incredible job at solving much of the difficulties involving writing applications with unmanaged C++. When you think about it, Microsoft never knew how to program in C++ in the first place. There is no evidence that they knew how to program until they came out with Vs.net C++7.0. This seems to be a good compiler for meeting the C++ standard although I am still testing it. I will have a whole month comming up where I can do this. Go over some of my C++ texts and for the first time be able to compile the program on a Microsoft compiler.

    I've found that since I've started reading about .net that I have learned a lot more about unmanaged code like COM, Win32 and in time ATL. Even though these technologies have nothing to do with managed code, the framework combines so many of these technologies that it is difficult not to want to know about them.

    The point I want to make is that these older technologies really suck. Any C++er that thinks they should learn those technologies is learning a prefabricated Microsoft brand of C++, that looks a lot like Moderator Govtcheezes ugly face. Welcome to the real world.

    There .NET framework is another way for them to try and monopolise the computing industry.

    Let Linux rule

    Good Lord don't make me start in on Linux as a primary desktop OS...it hurts my head to argue the same points over and over again. It's kind've like smashing someone over the head with an overly-blunt object...you have to hit them many times before they get the point

    and anyway, Dean, you hear about the Shared-Source CLI and the .NET for BSD yet?

    but whats really funny is that Dean keeps switching between MS and Linux....he can never make up his mind...just look at past threads. i bet you in 1 month he will hate MS again and love Linux.

    Why is it that you MS people get so ........ed off when somebody posts something about Linux and then you post something like "Microsoft Rules"? You would be all over somebody who posted "Linux Rules"

    But anyways.... you all are in denial. You know Linux is superior. Just admit it
    OS: Linux Mandrake 9.0
    Compiler: gcc-3.2
    Languages: C, C++, Java

    If you go flying back through time and you see somebody else flying forward into the future, it's probably best to avoid eye contact.

    Personally I call Linux - Unix, because it is a clone. I can't think of anything that it does better than MS Windows except that its source code if freely available allowing an experienced systems architect the opportunity to specialize Linux for a single purpose, however, that is only done on occasion because of all the work involved.

    I'm a .net proponent. I also like what www.rational.com is doing related to the UML and the Unfied Rational Process. I don't have any need for Linux. It is definately no better than Windows. There is no managed code framework for Linux, theres less hardware support, less software, and less GUI features. I thought that I wanted to use Linux because Win9X was a poor quality OS, however since Win2k and up, I have no major problem with MS Windows. I can finally write C++ code in VS.net C++7.0. I hope that MS Windows says around for at least a couple more decades and I won't change unless to experiment with other OS's as a hobby.

    Exactly. It brings nothing new to the user, really.
