    Linux - A newbie

    Hello, as a fairly die hard windows user, i am bout to come into possesion of a second PC. On this PC i would like to install Linux.
    However, having never used Linux/Unix before, i do not know where to start. I have a few simple questions:
    1)Which is the best Distribution for users who have never used linux. I.E which one is most like windows, while being linux?
    2)Will instructions for installation be included with the distribution?Thanks alot for your help.

    I hear SuSE is supposed to be good for beginners, but I've never used it.

    There will be at least some basic instructions whether you buy it out of the box or download it. I would guess there would be more detailed instructions in the boxed up one. Also, there are all kinds of online forums to help you with any issues you encounter.

    I started my Linux experience with Mandrake and found absolutely no real problems with it. I downloaded 8.2 off the internet and simply ran their Graphical Installation and it was a breeze.

    I don't think you'll have too many problems getting used to it. I used Windows since forever but quickly adjusted to Linux.
    OS: Linux Mandrake 9.0
    Compiler: gcc-3.2
    Languages: C, C++, Java

    If you go flying back through time and you see somebody else flying forward into the future, it's probably best to avoid eye contact.
