    Ahhhh... some people.

Do what you want in this world, unless you are trying to make me do what you want.... if the latter is the case, **** off.

I, along with many here, am old enough to understand where my decisions have taken me (hmmm... hawaii, family, money). Your holier than thou speech is old at best.

"I don't like the military. I hate alcohol. I hate this... I hate that. Blah blah blah blah blah."

People that state opinion as fact really amuse me. So do people that try to debate life lessons as if they haven't decided themselves where their stance is... Grow up.

There are all kinds of people in this world.... unfortunately for you, your kind is the least liked: the finger pointer.

p.s. Mr millitant... go up to a drunk army guy and give him your envigorating speeches about life.... see how long you remain standing. lol

until we all live in Utopia, then a military will be necessary. obviously everyone (sane) would prefer world peace, but will it EVER happen?????
i would guess not, and most certainly not in our lifetime......

so slagging off the military is ridiculous, slag off the politicians, its they who decide who and when to fight, the military just do their bidding..... and in a democracy the politicians generally act according to public opinion......so slag off the general public.....

Without countries we would not need a military.

"so slagging off the military is ridiculous"

Depends on the circumstances, in many instances the amount of money going into the military is unnecessary.

When I posted, I was stating my opinions not as fact, and I said as much. I posted because I thought there was too much glorification of alcohol, drugs, etc. I posted because I think it is very potentially harmful and usually leads only to a messed up life.

I'm not trying to change your' belief, I'm just stating mine. And I don't appreciate being flamed for my morals.

It's not a denial of our sentience at all, its a denial of our free will; which incidently cannot exist anyway without breaking every law of physics + has been demonstrated experimentally not to exist either:
So do everything, try everything, of course know the risks, know the consequences for your actions, and decide what you want to do.

Both quotes from Clyde. Is it just me, or is there a smidgeon of contradiction here??

No, there is not, the fact is I am confined by the English language, and there is no simple way of saying "make a decision" without implying free-will.

When I say "decide what you want to do", I mean weigh up the options and make an informed decision based on them, free-will doesn't come into the equation at all; Whether an etherial "you" is controlling the decision or the decision is made as a result of the physical interactions of your brain does not alter my advice.

So you'd prefer total anarchy...? Wow, I sure would give up the good ol' US of A for mob rule and rampaging! Woohoo! Think before you speak (or type anyway).

Not a problem. For what it's worth, I agree with you to an extent on this one. How the hell do you know if you don't try it. To quote Benny Hill (!!!!!)

edit>> This refers to the posts on page 2 & 3, before it went "off-topic".

Don't put off till tomorrow what you could do today. If you enjoy it today you can do it again tomorrow!

Just because your minute brain cannot come up with a scenario without countries that does not involve mob rule does not mean one does not exist.

What if there were no countries but there was still politics and police? What if every country unified into a global state?

Europe is already unifying, gradually Brussels and the European courts gain more and more power, eventually Europe will be a single state, it's an economic inevitability. (of course it will take time)

Just as multiple different terretories controlled by differing clans gave way to single countries in the past, so too can different countiries give way to continental super states, and in turn there is no reason they cannot give way to a global state.

Then you don't need a military, because there will be no wars. You still need a police force of course.

Wars and hence the need for the military are because of the "us and them" phenomenon. If there is no "them" then there is no need for a military.

Realistic? Perhaps, perhaps not. But either way; theoretically possible.

It'll happen, and if you ask me it's a good thing. National unification as a whole is a good thing, for the reason i've already given.

I don't think me he meant it like that Ken. Rather, without territory boundaries, there exists no inter-territory conflicts associated with zoning. And about that, I am for the globalization of the world, and am still waiting. But until then, the military keeps the peace, and both on the individual and the nations, help us all...
