"See that's the thing. The literature I read (in the past, it may have changed by now ) said that "it is belived" that depression is caused by chemicals in the brain, blah blah blah...

So it seemed to me that they (the researchers) just kinda decided "if I can't prove them wrong, I'll just agree". "

The amount of evidence in-favour of chemical imbalances is truly staggering, there is no real doubt here, we know exactly what imbalances cause different varieties of depression, the very fact that anti-depressants work far better than placebos is pretty much proof that depression is caused by chemical imbalances. Thats not to say there is not a psychological side as well, there certainly is.

"Beware the dangers of listening to music and attempting to hold true to a contention! I had this great arguement and was gonna jot it down and defend it and all, then Deadsy came on, and I started singing along. Result - Massive train of though derailment. Hopefully I'll be able to continue later..."

LOL, i get that all the time

Clyde I guess we'll never agree on this one, you already know that I don't agree with this, but under certain circumstances is better than other alternatives. I still don't agree with it. This could cause trauma on the kid, when he sees everyone has a mommy and a daddy but he's the only one with two daddies, that's all I am saying, besides he might get picked on. Also (please let's not start a religion thread) it's against my religion. Men were never meant to be together like that. Imagine the whole world turning gay, huh? ( I know it's not going to happen, but what are the odds, small) but I mean maybe that's one of the reasons because this is a sin, because then human kind might become exctint.

Actually my wife and I started dating when we were 13. We got married not long after we graduated high school. Counting dating and marriage we've been together for over 14 years ( happily, I might add ).

    >>What? Your argument seems to be that gay couples should not adopt because the kid may get picked on as a result, the same argument can be leveled at ethnic minority parents, whether they are adopting or not is irrelevant point is they are raising a child.<<

::sigh:: Really, I think your brain is about as thick as a ton of bricks. First off, I never said that gay couples couldn't adopt. Just because I argue for a side of the discussion that seemed strangely inept to backup their statements doesn't mean that I'm for that side...although I guess it could have been confusing. Hell, I'm confusing myself...

    >>The bottom line is that racism, and homophobia are exactly the same; ignorant prejudice. Ethnic minorites should be able to adopt and have children, they should not feel pressured into not doing so because of racism, likewise gay couples should be able to adopt, and should not feel pressured into not doing so because of homophobia.<<

Right, I never disagreed with any of this. In fact I whole-heartedly agree! I was just arguing, and I don't know how, in all that seeming common sense you appear to have, you can't realize that it might be the least bit weird for the kid to have two parents of the same sex. Sure, he'd get used to it and be sensitized to the issue of homophobia, and hopefully it'd make sure he'd never become a homophobe, but it would be kinda odd for a while.

Especially when he brings home his girlfriend for the first time "Now Linda, this is my father...and my other father."

    >>Guess we live different worlds

I guess we do, too. Parents here would be weirded out if an elementary school teacher (1st - 5th grade) were gay. Not necessarily because they're gay, but because they're afraid of pedophelia. ::sigh:: I guess some people just don't realize that gay people aren't the sole proprietors of pedohpelia.

Also, minority kids here don't get picked on. As Elchulo can vouch, south florida has so many ethnic groups it's nothing to be something besides caucasian.

I guess there's some truth in that, but the whole world will never turn gay...ever. Plus, sometimes you should just think that maybe your religion is wrong on that, and that homosexuality was meant to keep the population UNDER CONTROL. I mean, the human race actually has a better chance of becoming extinct if the whole world were straight. I bet you didn't think of it that way, but think of the excess polution, lack of space, fresh water, etc.

See, that's where my relgion ........es me off and I refuse to take it as fact, but more of something possibly mis-interpreted in all of the translations of the bible, or possibly thrown in there by someone along the lines of those translations. I mean, homosexuality is uncontrollable; it's in your genes. If we can agree on that, then the rest of this should quite possibly open your eyes. Now, why would God make an uncontrollable thing like that into a sin. Alright though, to be fair it states, AFAIK, that the ACT of homosexuality is a sin. So as long the man/woman denies themselves one of God's most beautiful things - Love - they're ok? Why would God do that to anybody? Deny them love.

Or maybe all gay couples should only be allowed to hold hands and blow kisses?

Oh I never said that God Created gays to control population, or maybe I misunderstood you........I don't really think you're born gay, but then again that hasn't been proven. Also yes being homosexual is a sin in my religion, don't really know if it only refers to sex though.

Freaking GD makes us all fight by starting this thread j/k

    >I don't really think you're born gay, but then again that hasn't been proven.

The latest papers I read stated that homosexuality is induced by varying testosterone levels in pregnancy. Guys get much, Girls get almost none. A girl getting more is likely to turn lesbian and a man receiving less than normal is likely to be gay. So it's neither an active choice nor genetic ( who would inherit a gay gene anyway ? That would mean gays would create offspring ).

But that's just been a report I cannot check, because I didn't do the study myself. I believe in Biology, others believe in religion.

I do have to admit it creeps me out seeing two men kissing. It's just icky. Something I could never do. I don't get this feeling with lesbians for obvious reasons. She likes a woman... big deal, I mean who does not ?

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

    LMAO

You do have a point, also I think that I wouldn't be so freaked out talking and interacting with a gay man, if he weren't acting so freaking femenine. Let me rephrase it creeps me out with a gay dude acts like a girl, dont' know why, if he is gay and acts like or least somewhat masculine I guess I am clam about it, but when you see someone acting all girly and talking like a pure girl it just creeps me out.

Now lesbians I've always thought it wasn't as nasty, although again I don't agree with it, it's less nasty than two dudes kissing, so you know "boys will be boys" I've always used to think that two girls kissing would be kind of cool, well not really cool, but BETTER in a sick perverted mainly kind of way. But then I see this girl, nice looking girl, kissing this other "thing", that looked so much like a man, that it just creeped me out. I mean she looked so much like a man that it wasn't even cool anymore. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with lesbians, but also nor do I have a problem with them, I just think it's less creepy and nasty, like nvoigt said for obvious reasons.

More or less, it sounds accurate.

Take into consideration though that I have done no research in this, I'm just going by gut feeling.
