    VC++ Standard or Professional?

    Can anybody tell me the difference between Vc++ Standard Edition which I have and the Professional Edition. Why must Microsoft be so confusing?

    I thought it was fairly straightforward - go to the Web site, click the link.

    The standard one doesn't come with any optimizations and the pro one cost alot more. Surprisingly borland's free command line compiler does optimize.

    VC doesn't meet the ANSI/ISO standard... it breaks it a lot more than it should and this can cause a lot of problems later on.

    If your looking to buy for learning, keep VC++ Standard for now.

    Soon, the .NET stuff will be flooding the market, so you may want to hold on before splashing out loads on a Pro.
