Quake 3, i heard that this game doesnt have any Multiplayer challenge such as ctf, deathmatch, n other. So u cant even come close to compare this game with UT ( cuz UT is unreal! ).

Doom 3 is going to be superior, in every way,
    to Unreal 2.

Doom 3, lol, i nearly forgot about that game. But anyway i dont think so.
Epic studios had done a great job in making the UNREAL engine
which is so stable, and runs amzingly fast.
( i can assure any1 on the web that for the next 2 years none game can beat UNREALTOURNAMENT beside UNREAL 2)

Unreal Tournament 2003 looks good, but if it's
anything like the first UT, it's going to suck.
Don't confuse urself UNREAL with UNREALTOURNAMENT.
i think u are talking about unreal.
unreal was equalavalent to QUAKE 3, but UT is much more better than that.'

    TO nvoigt:

Stradegy games and TURN based stadegy games are different. 1 thing most of us can agree upon is that anything that is TURNBASED is for non-hardcore gamers.
Among the strdegy games AOE2 is the best so far
and yes u got to use stradegy in the game if u ever want to win
that is if u play moderate of hard.
(for people who play TURNBASED if they ever think of playing AOE2, plz start with eaziest lvl)

Uh, I wasn't confusing them. I know the difference.
Where the freak did all that text that you quoted
me come from? I didn't even say half of that...

You're wrong, anyway. Unreal Tournament is
comparable to Quake III. Both are online, MP games.

One series of turn-based games that I can never seem to get to much of is WORMS. A little bit of action and strategy mixed in with a load of laughs. Currently, I have been playing WORMS World Party. Great game to unwind to after a long day. Just kick your shoes off, recline, and blow **** up!

Turn based I find more enjoyable than RTS.
Heroes of Might & Magic series for example. RTS is all about flooding not tactics. Liked Empire Earth RTS though, fleets of nukes bombers lighting up the screen.

Currently we play Dungeon Siege on LAN. Great graphics and built with multiplayer coop in mind. Like Diablo2 meets D&D (Baldurs Gate) in style.

Operation Flashpoint was great on LAN except if you got killed first and spent too much time as a seagull (swear the PC could shoot you thru a brick wall). Played that coop rescue mission 1000+ times and only rescued 1 hostage total (too trigger happy with grenades). Some great missions on the net. Ghost Recon was similar.

true, giving me a tendency to be cowardly and hide at the back !! bit like i'd be if a real soldier i guess.

i noticed one bug, unless it was just on one mission. planted a satchel charge and retreated to a very safe distance. couldn't resist looking thru binoclears to view my handiwork as i set it off.
but when i did it killed me even tho i was laying down miles away !! obviously assumed i was closer since i was looking at it magnified ???

friendly fire also a major problem !!! especially with me, you don't want to be in front of me !! it is hard to id the enemy/friendlies and not to be trigger happy !!

I disagree. Depends on why you're playing. Warcraft II was a fun game but really the only tactics were:

    1) Exploit the incredible AI stupidity
    2) Make sure your peons havent gotten stuck somewhere
    3) Build lots and lots of units

Games like 'Civilizations' require much more strategy.

Am I the only one that thinks Doom is still a really good game?

    Best Strategy games (IMO)

    Commandos (1 and 2)
    Fallout 2.
StarCraft: Brood Wars - You may not think so if you've ever played on battle.net... it's based around a map called 'BGH' which totally ruins the strategic aspects of the game.
Warcraft III - This is less fun than StarCraft was, but it's strategy++.

The AOE's are based around massing units... there is no 'Micromanagment' involved... something which Blizzard RTS' coined.

D2 is coming out with a new 'huge' patch 1.10 which is supposidly supposed to resolve the unbalanced issues...
I might pick it up again if it turns out to be fixed

fish u wouldnt call fallout a stradgy game because it is a turn-based rpg game

i just hate the word turn based, it is so lame.

AOE2 has alot of stradegy involvoled.
U must have accruate timing, and rite troops to fight the nme
unless ur playing lvl eaziest (or is there lvl < eziest)

You can easily mass and win on RTS games, but you cannot win with massing units in TBS.

    Eg. Civ II, SMAC.
