    Stopping pop-ups...

Anyone know a good freeware program that kills popups? I was gonna get AdSubtract, but heard it was spyware...

if you are using MSIE 5.0+, there's an option in the security features where you can disable code.
there's also another feature where you can disable cookies from certain websites.
    think only with code.

Pop-Up Killer (PUK) has got to be the best, although POW is pretty good too.

I have used Pop-Up Killer with IE, and it was quite good. But it didn't stop the windows poping up. I mean, you could hear the sound of the windows poping up and the killer getting rid of them.

I didn't manage to make it work with Netscape.

Then, I opened my eyes and downloaded Opera. I advise you to have a look at www.opera.com and download the Java version. It's worth downloading than taking it from a PC magazine. Also, once you download it, go to the thread here and download the attachment I left (it's called something like Opera sexy).
When you run Opera, just go to File ---> Quick Preferences ---> Refuse pop-up windows

It's quite effective. And you'll browse quicker than usual.

    Good luck

If you go to a **ez page for example, one of those with porn pop ups, they keep on coming faster than you can press Alt-F4. And many of them won't close with it.

Use a firewall that can stop internet traffic...

stop traffic... alt f4... alt f4 if another window comes... start traffic.

I.E. Intelligent Explorer is another WIN IE like browser that has pop up killers.

I would think a search on google would find you with a billion of them.

Your best bet in my opinion is to just manually close the windows, it normally shouldn't be a big deal unless you're surfing a bunch of porn sites or something. Most pop up stoppers will close not just popups but any new window that is open, so for instance we'll use these boards as an example, how normally you could click on a link that some of the posters provide and it would pop up new, it would stop that as well. That is unless you pay for one.
