drop-down menu

How the monkey do I explain this? 'OK', I'm using Win98SE, and in most offce applications when I click on a drop down menu it doesn't open completely but has a double arrow pointing down... think you know what I mean. Is there any way to get rid of this, cause it's getting on my nerves here
