thats interesting what you said about morphine tolerance !!
did the nurses/doctors just think you were a wimp ??

i had the same thing last year, i had an operation, and they had to pump me so full of morphine i was totally tripping.....they were accusing me of a low pain tolerance, but its not true because ive had operations on my testicle and eye (very sensitive areas!!!) and the nurses then were saying i had good pain tolerance, i even was refusing medication then.

do you smoke cannabis ?? i was smoking a hell of a lot in the year leading up to my op, i was wondering if it had any effect ??
i know morphine & cannabis are totally different but they affect endorphine production apparently......

or mebe we are just almost immune to morphine for some reason....

No, I don't smoke the wacky weed, never have. As far as the shot goes, I figure one of three things was happening. The first is that they might have given me a placebo shot the first time, perhaps they thought I was faking the pain and just wanted to score a quick fix of some free narcotics. The second is that they may have given me a low dose either intentionally or unintentionally. The third is that for some reason I just have some higher than usual tolerance for pain medications.

In any case, if you ever do need pain relief ask for that dilaudid stuff cause it's sweet. I give it my enthusiastic two-thumbs-up. That second time in the hospital a friend of mine drove me there. Now she always laughs when she remembers the funny stuff I said and the dazed look I had after they gave me that shot. I'm sure she would have loved to have a videotape of my behavior at that point "under the influence". Frankly all I remember is saying something like: "Holy sh** I fell that stuff kicking in!" and then most everything else is a blur.

At my current tender age of 20, I have suffered:-

75% ligament tear in my knee, which still haunts me three years after (Damn you NHS!)

A scar half an inch from my eye, which was caused by a shattered bottle, and the three resulting stitches.

A cracked wrist playing football... somehow...

And.. how it all started... concussion at the age of 7, caused by a wooden floor rushing up to meet my ever falling body...

    SO!

not that many bad ones... but enough in my short life span.. I think...

Geez, stevey, cool it. You keep pulling the age/experience card like you're some sort of Guru at life. "Well, you're only 15; you can't have an interesting conversation with me...you're too stupid". Sounds like this annoying kid in my PE class who told my friend that she couldn't play him in basketball because she was a girl...long story short, white girl beats goofy black kid.

Anyhow, I happen to agree with the point that martial arts people tend to get their asses whooped in real fights.

Heh, I bet within this week I wind up getting into a fight...this annoying kid that nobody really likes, is like 30 pounds overweight, weak, annoying, stupid, incredibly ugly, and sucks up to me and my friends so people think he's popular keeps talking .......... about me, and every time I step to him he stares at the ground like a pansy. But then every tyime I turn around he's saying something. Well I'm about 3 inches taller than him, 35 pounds lighter, stronger, and I'm starting to get a bit ........ed off that I'm going to break my rule of never fighting at school...

wish me luck, not that I'll need it

I gotta agree with Ken there, you laugh at some kid for acting all tough and mentioning his tai Chi lesson (lol), then instantly brag about numerous injuries, real fights, taekwodno lessons, etc, etc

Martials arts aint the be all and end all of fighting, but if you have the training you'll have a better idea about avoiding the fights in the first place - hopefully.

All this been there, done that **** just dont cut it, its all in the moment - you may just have been lucky!

keep pulling the age card ??? shut it weenie boy do i ???
give me an example where i wasn't joking or when it wasn't deserved and i will send you a fiver. go on i challenge you.....
post some examples......money where mouth is !!

or is the bit where i object to not being able to tell dirty jokes becos of kiddies ??? well thats true i do......then again this is a programming site so fair enuff....

or was it where i was laffing cos 12 y/o mental age is a moron !!! well i thought that was dead funny myself....

anyway if you think i'm gonna let a 13 y/o tell ME how to fight without me ripping him, ya gotta be joking !!
"trust me, i take out people twice my size"
don't you realise how annoying the above statement is for me ??
giving me advice cos hes done a bit of something...jeez
yes it was OTT and i had a right rant, but i'm a bit sick of it at my gym, it winds me up..so sorry Xterria...but we all have a rant sometimes...it is in your best interests believe me. and the fact that i was having a go at him means that i DON'T look down on kids, or i'd just think "stupid kid, not worthy of an answer"

and then you go on to talk at great length about beating up some fat kid, just cos you hate him, and hes said something bad about you !! you even say you can take him easy, and you're still gonna pick a fight ?? that makes you an immature bully in my book . or am i being a guru again....
and ((AP)you criticise me for bragging about fights and injuries???
i thought we were supposed to be listing our injuries ? i aint bragging, you think i WANT all these injuries?? i wish not one had happened......not one of mine is a braggable macho injury.....

i also wish i'd never ever had a fight in my life, you think i'm bragging??? i said i'd RUN AWAY to avoid fighting, cos its all macho bull**** !!! i haven't b4, but i would now ive grown up, i was hoping someone would take that advice, and yeah its cos i'm older and have learnt better.... that was what i was trying to say....oops guru again......i was hoping someone would think twice b4 fighting over **** all, but youve just proved me wrong........

and the thing with the taekwondo kids, i don't do it(their class is at my gym), i'm far too lazy now, but they are a joke, you get a 14 y/o black belt swaggering about like he owns the place.....it is worthy of ribbing!!!!! a lot have this "i can take out a guy twice my size" attitude. i hate it, and i was having a rant at it.

and about me winning most of my fights, mebe it is all luck, i don't intend to find out, if i can possibly avoid it......because ive grown up !! oops i'm going all Guru again....

    Stevie,
I agree 100% with the taikwondo remarks. Get a real martial art. We here in Aussie are now teaching the French their own martial art, Savate (the WW2 French resistance form not the sport).

Think about it, its not the inscrutable Asian who needs to fight, its the infurating French who need to defend themselves.

As Oscar Wilde said "I am not young enough to know everything."

But a guru should know how to spell

Oh my God!!! That is a whole thread waiting to happen. Actually taekwondo is a real martial art, its taught to the Korean armed forces and some of the armed forces in the UK (RAF specifically). You think they teach it for a laugh?? Imagine the instructors laughing at all those soldiers and thinking "hehe just wait til they get into a "real" fight they're all gonna get there arses kicked!".
    on't think so somehow.

I'm sure its not the stuff they teach in the average class and it most definitily is not that poncy stuff you see in the olympics, damn americans messed the whole martial art up - they cant get anything right :

yeah its different to the version they teach in my gym. they teach bits of taekwondo to British police too in the self-defense courses. as well as the arm locks, grappling etc

what i meant by this ->
    >>sparring and boxing/martial arts is great and useful but the trick is not to be too cocky with it, thinking you know how to fight, leading you into situations that a non-black belt guy would avoid.....even if you have a black belt 3rd dan you may get a shock in your first REAL fight..

it seems to me a lot of people learn martial arts and it can lead them into fighting when they'd be better avoiding. and also they probably learn some impractical techniques. re my friend who tried a high kick for some reason. they will always tell you in a self-defense course not to kick above the waist.
course i'm not talking about it as a sport.

but you are obviously better off doing martial arts or boxing whatever, than sat on your arse watching TV !!!

Exactly the point Stevie. In a real fight the winner is the one who is prepared to go the furthest, without a thought for himself or others.

That can be seen in martial arts classes as well. The very eager, very enthusiastic beginner will sometimes catch out the blackbelt because he wants to prove a point. If he wants it more it will happen, and the blackbelt will be going easy and get a kick when he least expects it. Trust me, been there and done it in a class - everyone loves to get one over on the best people in the room.

However, sometimes the cocky people really are the best, and their cockiness is the reason why - but only sometimes

How effective a marshal artist is at combat depends on how the marshal art is taught.

People who study full-contact Karate are hard muthers.

Like many things in life experience matters more than technique (though in my humble opinion technique is worth something - put Bruce Lee up against a bar braller(sp?) and see what happens )
