Screwed up knees - basketball (They just lock up sometimes randomly. It's hard to play intense sprots now because my kneecaps lock up. I haven't asked the doctor about it yet, and it's been like this for a year or two...I'm starting to work out my knees now, so maybe it'll help)
Kicked in the nuts - In kindergarten I ws kicked in the nuts when I tried to kiss this girl Alex (there was some kissing game we all used to play) well anyhow I'd totally blocked it from my mind in every way possible, and I didn't continue in that school after kindergarten. So one day in 8th grade I was walking aimlessly around the halls skipping geography and Alex comes up to me and relates the whole story to me...for the life of me I swear my brain completely destroyed the cells that were supposed to record that memory
Few more nut injuries...sports realted, I think.

well, i almost got emphasema from writing code once...when i used to smoke...it made me chain smoke...so...i don't know. i've been stuck on this same problem for 2 weeks now...totally in the dark. maybe i need a smoke. it always helped before...no...not worth it...help!!!

I was going to say nothing much, but then, compared to almost all(from what you wrote) I'm the unlucky one. (damnit
broken arm *2
broken ribs*3 (same time, three seperate ribs)
broken fingers *a-big-number
been stabbed (by a person)
cut *50 billion (more scars than I can count)
got in too many fights . . . eer well skirmishes. But it was their fault I promise!
ooh and xterria i'd have to agree with stevey, you obviously haven't been in any real fights.

Two front teeth in 4 days -> hockey
Concussion and near drowing -> surfing
Multiple stitches -> 'la Canne' (fencing with sabre)
Red Back spider bite is also bad (bitten on two occasions, once I was bitten multiple times, takes a few months for the scarring/swelling to go)
Scariest/funniest thing was seeing my friend bitten by a shark as we went out surfing. A 1m carpet shark or 'wobbigong' clamped on to his foot. (they have only small rasping teeth and get territorial at breeding season) Nearly ground his little toe off. After the surprise of the attack laughed so hard as the shark shook him by the leg for a minute because he did not want to hit it with his board in case he 'dinged' it.

when you're my age, you don't count high school fights as fights, you vary rarely keep going until one of you is unconcious or totally hammered...nor do i count sparring in martial arts, boxing etc. you can't have full contact or you'd smash each other to pieces when you're an adult.Originally posted by Dissata

sparring and boxing/martial arts is great and useful but the trick is not to be too cocky with it, thinking you know how to fight, leading you into situations that a non-black belt guy would avoid.....even if you have a black belt 3rd dan you may get a shock in your first REAL fight... ..its very hard to recreate the full range of no holds barred vicious techniques.....neither is the sheer terror and resulting adrenaline burst so that everything is slowed down......
i see xterria types at my gym in taekwondo class, teenagers who are just too cocky, overconfident....get a black belt at 13 and think they are hardcases....[i can take on guys twice my size types ] they often get the **** kicked out of them in a real fight.....forget all the training/moves when the panic sets in.....or are so cocky that they aren't afraid enough...and most fights will happen when you're drunk also !!
my best friend at uni was a black-belt karate and was going for his dans etc, and very cocky with it.....however he only had 2 real fights and lost them both.......
1) tried a high kick and ended up on his backside.....
2) overconfidence led him to take on a very big but very fat unfit looking guy, the guy didn't give him a chance to use karate, grabbed him, grappled, used his weight and got him round the neck, spraining it and leaving him defenceless on the floor.....luckily he just left it at that.....
myself, ive had my fair share, and only lost once..but you lose ONCE if nobody's around and you may be dead..
i know enough now that it would only upset me slightly to walk away, or even run away....its mostly male pride that causes 95% of fights..........is it worth it ???
anyway tell us more about the stabbing. now thats interesting !!!

can't red spider bites be fatal ??? is that only when you've a weak heart etc ??
whats this fear of dinging the shark ??? surely he had every right to !!!!!

One day about 5 years ago, I got so frustrated and mad at my boss, I punched a steel panel and broke the metacarpol bone behind the pinkie finger on my right hand. I had three pins driven into my hand to hold the bone in place for 4 weeks. After they were removed, RSD ( Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy ) developed in my hand to the point that I almost lost the use of it. RSD is pretty nasty, I would wake up in the middle of the night not being able to bend my fingers, they were like rocks, in panic I would put my hand under warm water and massage the hand until after 30 minutes or so they would start to move again. After about 3 months of aggressive physical therapy, I finally got back most of the use of my hand, but I have lost about 40 pounds of grip. It's pretty amazing how a broken bone in your hand can cause so much pain and trouble.
November of last year I had a seizure in my sleep. I woke up and my back was in pain, I had broken my right scapula, and could barely move. I had also bitten into my tongue and tore a small pea sized chunk out of it (proably swallowed it). Blood was gushing out of my mouth and I had to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. I'm sure the 911 phone call I made must have sounded funny with me holding onto my tongue. When I got to the hospital they gave me a shot of morphine but ten minutes later I was still in pain. I asked the nurse how long it should take for the shot to have taken effect and she said within a minute or two. They had to give me a second shot of morphine before I felt any pain relief (I must have a resistance to pain meds). Then they were giving me a shot of a local anesthetic directly into my tongue before they came back and sewed up the cut in there.
Then, in February I had another seizure. No major injuries but I was still in a lot of pain. This time in the ER, they gave me an injection of something stronger than morphine for the pain, I think it was called dilaudid. That stuff was the BOMB! I felt that stuff take effect within 30 seconds.
In both cases they gave me percocet to take home but that stuff wasn't effective for me unless I smashed up two or three tablets and drank it with some milk. I've had a total of about 100 tablets of that stuff related to pain from these two instances. Maybe I'm addicted to pain meds now?!
