    The Matrix

I'm confused, In the movie when the Oracle tells Neo that he is not the one and he might be in another life time, doesn't this happen in the movie. I mean in the final scenes where the Agent kills him and he's flatline on the heart monitor, then he comes back to life, is that another "life"?????

The oracle merely tells Neo, "What he needs to hear".

i wouldn't read too much into a movie where humans are used as batteries !!!!!
that spoilt the whole movie for me, it being complete bollocks. now a lot of sci-fi is complete bollocks i know, but can't they write something even resembling a logical plot ???

they even mentioned nuclear fusion "machines are using a mixture of nuclear fusion and human beings to generate their power"
    good grief

they should have said human beings were used in some kind of experiment or something, i dunno, but batteries !!!!! jeez

gosh stevey, i'm gonna have to disagree with you. the wachowski brothers have made some very good films that have more depth than you might think. the thing about sci-fi, the good ones at least, is they parable and highlight the ills of present time, bringing these ills to their extreme conclusions. logic is as important to the matrix as it was to shakespear: zip. everyone's crazy about the information age, computer this, tech that (i'll take my ip extra toasty please), but where it leads is to the omnipotence of flowing electrons--sounds bleak to me.

watch the movie again with the knowledge that the writers/directors are very good at using the visual image to carry their meaning (when neo is "birthed" into the real world, or the oracle's kitchen compared to the hovercraft's kitchen, or even the way the "real" people dress and manipulate objects compared to the "old" style phones and buildings in the "fake" world, and so on). there's a lot more there, don't sell the movie short.

as for the poster's q: the oracle/wiseman narative tool is an old one (back to homer/virgil); everything they say is a foreshadow of things to come.

The Oracle tells Neo that he has the gift but he is waiting for something perhaps his next life. She really does not know what he is waiting for.

Ever see "The Thirteenth Floor"? I think it's a little bit more realistic (relatively).
I'm interested in what the plot of the next Matrix movie will be. I thought they closed the movie off a bit too much in the first one. It's gonna have to be really good to justify all the hype.
Personally, I'm looking forward to MIIB in July.
If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to see it, do the other trees make fun of it?

don't get me wrong, it was a very good, very interesting film...
the scenes of human farms etc......very good...the matrix, ie all life as we know it is a fabrication.......very interesting...
its the idea of the humans being used as batteries that upset me with the film.....humans cannot be used in this way !!! and also mentioning that the machines had got nuclear fusion compounded it !!! theyve got fusion (virtually limitless energy !!) and they use humans as batteries !! complete cobblers !! humans give out about 40W and need to eat to do it, using humans as an energy source is a scientifically stupid idea
i can't think of an explanation for the matrix, but some kind of experiment would have been better.....like that film "dark city"...
anyone seen that ??? that was a good film....

stevey, i really don't know much about the fusion/battery stuff, but i do remember that scene when fishburn holds up the battery with the pure white background and the "energizer" chord strikes up--almost exactly like the commericals i remember; i thought that was great like a sucker punch to our omnivorous nature (compare that scene with the one later when the agent is describing how humans are viruses leaving nothing un-consumed)--wow, i'm gonna have to watch the movie again.

you see, it doesn't matter if i think hyperdrive can really exists or if james bond owns a pair of shoes that can walk up buildings, star wars and bond are not failing because of it--in fact, the spuriousness kind of adds depth and character to the movie.

    well, that's my 2 cents

    well fair enough.

    i am actually a big sci-fi fan.....
    i guess i don't like certain things in sci-fi, like star treks transporter...i dont like that....use a shuttle !!!
some things are somewhat silly i think.

but its is a good movie in any case, i'll be watching them all.....
