Do you judge someone based on their choice for words on the internet?

I just an a HUGE incident in a private chatroom. Do you think its right to do that? Some kid was judging me online based on what I say. He doesn't even know me in real life but yet he keeps assuming things.

Ofcourse, when reading posts on boards or chatting with someone, you get an impression of a persons. But, the impression you get is based upon written words and can be very wrong.

Especially if the person who writes a post or with whom you are chatting with isn't very good at English, it can happen that people don't understand what you exactly wanted to say. For people for whom English isn't the first language, it's sometimes hard to find the right words.

Therein lies the problem. Don't let the opinion of "some kid" rattle you too much; they are contentious by nature ;)

Plus, it's just some online kid you're never gonna meet in real life...why the hell would you let the opinion of someone who could live 5000 miles away bother you?

I agree with Ken and Shiro. I shouldn't be upset. By the way, his name is Aran. He goes to this board.

Well, what other impression is he supposed to get about you? I don't use chatrooms, but words would be pretty much the only way to form an opinion about someone in a chatroom.
Was his (see, you're assuming something about him - that he's a kid and male) judgment accurate or fair? I don't know. If you don't think so, don't worry about it.

I know man, but this is the internet. When people are online they don't mean half of the things they say. In real life however, the value of words are much higher and are taken seriously.

That's only because people can reach out and stick you...which is a freedom I exercise a bit too much...

I agree. You guys (Aran & GB) need to hook it up Fight Club style and get this over with.

You don't like him. He doesn't like you. We get the idea. And to be honest we're all sick and tired of hearing about it.

You guys need to throw down and get it over with.
