HaHa Sun takes Microsoft to court

It looks like Sun Micro launched an official lawsuit against Microsoft Corp. today claiming that the new Xp operating system
deliberately doesnt support thier Java language

I know ive had many problems with anything to do with Java on my comp and i have Xp.
From what ive seen on the news it looks like a big suit.
I cant see sun Pullin out the guns unless they thought they had a chance.
I mean what are they gonna do make Microsoft release a new version or a patch or recall the Operating system altoghther.

Could prove to be interesting......I also heard a while back that Microsoft release C# because they were sued by the creators of Java or something. Don't know how true this is however.

I know what you mean. I've had to disable the Java 1.4 plugin for use with IE, otherwise certain sites (including this one) crash my browser every couple of minutes in XP.

I'd guess some sort of patch is due. However companies often seem to take each other to court all the time and little comes of it (apart from giving the lawyers something to do).

Yes, Microsoft wanted to modify Java for its own uses, Sun wouldn't let them.

I think the first lawsuit was Sun suing MS for not following the java standard on there J++ or something like that. Basically ms got blocked from using java so they introduced C# instead. Not sure about all the details. With that on mind C# looks even more like a java clone and nothing that is developed because of a good idea but more to play a role in corporate chees. On top of that I think MS just tried to reintroduce J.Net. I think this lawsuit will be even harder to fight of then the last one. I have really mixed emotions about MS. On one hand they really is pulling a load when it comes to inventing but on the other side they are really nasty Corp predators on the buisnes side. I guess I would say that engineers are nicer then layers and buisnies people.

Well I haven't really had any problems with Java and I am running XP.......not that that really counts.

Not at all........they would just as likely do it if they knew they had no hope....its a defence, as it could help their share price during the trial and legal wrangling that will take place for years with a case like this.......

The last big "could this be the end of M$" lawsuit that sun launced fizzled out and was settled out of court by lawyers....and IMHO sun allowed themselves to get shafted anyway

I reckon all the ........ed off companies should form an alliance, and when Microsoft least expects it, launch six thousand lawsuits. Microsoft would be ..........ed

How can Sun go to court with that arguement? It's Microsoft's choice on what they choose to support and what not to support. If they dont want to support something, they dont have to. It is their operating system. So how can they be taken to court over that?

Sun against Microsoft seems to be like Intel against AMD. They'll always be there and the competition will too. Although, Sun really doesn't have anything over Microsoft except Java (*cough* monopoly *cough*)
