    1) check your video card and it's connector
    2) is your monitor overheating?
    3) how old is it? maybe your monitor is taking a dive...

    Inside the computer...

By connector, I'm assuming ober meant to make sure the monitor is plugged into the card's port securely... While you're at it, it wouldn't hurt to make sure your video card's securely seated in its slot on the motherboard (unless you have onboard video, in which case, I can't really help)

something tells me you are a newbie to the hardware world... if you don't feel comfortable cracking your case open and taking a look inside, find someone who will do it for you. and for heaven's sake, if you do it yourself, shut down the computer first and keep yourself grounded.

but yes, make sure your monitor cable is securely attached to the tower/"case"...

is the disappearance of your video the only problem you are having? are you having color issues also? maybe some blurring effects? we need more details here...

Are you sure it's not just a normal degaussing? The monitor usally makes a noice when it does.

Good point... I'd try what ober was talking about, then... Check your monitor's connection... If that's not it, and you happen to have another monitor around somewhere, plug that in and see if it's better. If it is, sorry, your old monitor's probably bad... Otherwise, I'm not real sure - it's hard to troubleshoot hardware without actually seeing it.

I had a problem very similar a few months ago with my Geforce 2 Pro. It turned out it was the video card (tried it in other machines). Took it back and swapped it for a new one and everything was fine.

ya know... i got to thinking... maybe, depending on how old it is... it just needs degaussed, like barjor said... i've never heard of it... but i imagine if you have a lot of buildup, a good monitor would attempt to degauss on it's own...

    i dunno... just an idea..
