    caution: don't lick envelopes

well, just minuets ago i received an email talking about a true bizarre story which happened to a girl! well i thought its not a bad idea to share it with you!(well it seems CNN already broadcasted the stuff but for those who didnt see that here it is ) maybe it helps us to be more careful on our daily affairs
    here it is :

One day a girl licked the envelopes and postage stamps instead of using a sponge. That very day the lady found a cut on her tongue. A week later, she noticed an abnormal swelling of her tongue. She went to the doctor, and they found nothing wrong. Her tongue was not sore or anything. A couple of days later, her tongue started to swell more, and it began to get really sore, so sore, that she could not eat. She went back to the hospital, and demanded something be done.
The doctor took an x-ray of her tongue and noticed a lump. He prepared
her for minor surgery. When the doctor cut her tongue open, a live cockroach crawled out!!!!

There were cockroach eggs on the seal of the envelope. The egg was able to hatch inside of her tongue, because of her saliva.
    It was warm and moist...

This is a true story reported on CNN.

    Andy Hume wrote:

Hey, I used to work in an envelope factory. You wouldn't believe the....things that float around in those gum applicator trays. I haven't licked an envelope for years!" I used to work for a print shop (32 years ago) and we were told NEVER to lick the envelopes. I never understood why until I had to go into storage and pull out 2500 envelopes that were already printed and saw several squads of cockroaches roaming around inside a couple of boxes with eggs everywhere. They eat the glue on the envelopes.

PLEASE PASS THIS INFO TO YOUR FRIENDS. After reading this
    you will
never lick another envelope or stamp.

snopes.com: Cockroach at Taco Bell or in Envelope Glue

edit: I totally agree that there's probably nasty stuff on the envelope glue, but the news story is a hoax.

Reminds me of an episode on Seinfeld where Costanza's fiance dies after licking a bunch of cheap envelopes. Ironically, the envelopes were to be used to send invitations for their wedding

Reminds me of Dr Doolittle where they invented postage stamps with medical effects (if I remember correctly)
    I might be wrong.

Thank you, anon. You sure know how to recognize different types of trees from quite a long way away.

This was also on an episode of "Truth or Fiction" many years ago. It was pretty gross...

Of course it's fake, who would go to the doctor after getting a paper cut on their tongue?!

I went to the doctors about a week ago just because of a sore neck. It turned out to be a pretty serious bacterial infection. I guess sometimes hypochondriacs get their way...

Well considering all the people that go to the doctor every time they get a little cold...
Yeah, like they've found a cure for the cold virus since the last time they went there...

You can use a sponge to seal an envelope?

Only if it's wet. I've never tried a dry sponge, but I'm guessing it wouldn't work too well.
