    We're Moved!

The C Board, and the rest of Cprogramming.com have been moved to a newer, faster and all-around better server. I apologize for any disruption to your posting habit, but I hope that the new server will provide a better overall experience.

I am hopeful that the transition was smooth, but if you notice anything that doesn't work as expected, please let me know.

Please note that for a brief period of time, you may find that you sometimes access the old server because of DNS propagation times.

First thing I noticed was how much snappier the site seems to load for me. I just clicked on 'go advanced' for this reply, and that definitely seems better, in terms of how much time it takes.

Much faster here too. But apparently something is wrong with search section.
The captcha that is used to be there without logging in is not being displayed.

Thanks for the heads-up, the captcha should be fixed.

    Noticeably faster, thanks.

I don't see anything not working other than what wasn't working before the server move.

Much much faster for me. Did you upgrade the hardware, or just move it to a dedicated server? I know my VB runs on a shared system so sometimes that can effect how fast it services MySQL requests. Posting a reply is realyl fast now, it used to take several seconds for the reply page to load. Did you perhaps also optimize the database in the process?

We've always been on a dedicated server, but the hardware was upgraded--a faster processor with dual cores and more RAM. We also upgraded from a 10MBit port to a 100MBit port.

My ISP was slow as nails to get the updated DNS, so I was unable to visit for several days. Bummer.

Couple of suggestions to make such move smoother: 1. In the days/weeks before the move decrease the DNS TTL temporarily. If nothing else, at least that.

    2. Create a temporary A record, say cboard2.cprogramming.com which points to the new IP. 3. After the forum has been physically moved, on the old server redirect or at least post a link to cboard2.

In this manner downtime is limited to the relatively short time it takes to copy the stuff.

Which user here actually "owns" the site?
    Just curious.
