Hi,
Can someone pls list all the operating systems in-use today? I wanna get a rough idea of how many os'es are there. If possible, is there a site that has a comparison between the os'es?
Thnx in advance

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.

Not possible, there are, when taking all possible variations into account, thousands.
I'll add...
OpenVMS - (because that's what I'm using now - widely used in industry on the former DEC VAX (32 bit) and Alpha (64 bit) systems).
RSX-11 - running on thousands of PDP-11's around the world
VME/x - various marks running on ICL/Fujitsu mainframes
MVS - running on IBM mainframes
MS-DOS - used in reality by many, thought to be in use by many misguided Windows Console programmers
Ahh, the list goes on and on.

It depends on the architecture.
Solaris runs on 64-bit architecture and so will Itanium, but as for X86 or 32-bit than nv named the most popular ones.
Hmmm, yes, thats a start I suppose!

As you could see from the former postings, the number of OS'es is really huge. I guess you're not interested in all OS'es, isn't it? Many OS'es are application specific or even architecture specific. And what do you mean by comparing? If you mean if there is a best operating system, there is not. It depends on the system where it is used.
Can you be a bit more specific?
There is only one true operating system: MS-DOS 3.3.
It never, ever, ever let me down (not once!), and everything went down hill from there.

YOu are so wrong....The only truely good OS is MS-DOS 1.0 . The original and the best.Originally posted by Deckard

nonono, Unix is far superior to MS-DOS (in my opinion at least )
DOS is ugly. I like my OS's pretty and sorta stable, like Win2K.
What's the worst OS ever? Windows ME is my choice, or maybe Linux Mandrake.
