Do you know how many games you could be playing right now, or how many books you could read, or how many pictures you could draw?

It sounds like you need to broaden your interests, especially since you seem to think that everyone has such an uneventful lifestyle.

Indeed. There are millions of things to do, millions of places to go. If you are not interested in anything at all and don't look around, you can't find anything interesting for yourself.

This reminds me I have to go out and get another inflatable pool (diameter 1.5m.) so I can float once more in my private pool in this river that is located where I live (Ill try and take some pictures this time so the whole world wide web can have a laugh on my account!). Looking forward for the summer holiday!

Razz... you really need to open you eyes. You either live under a rock and don't go out much, or you just know what you say is complete nonsense, but decide to say it the same.

Personally, I think you know you are full of it. And as such, remarks as the one above only show how intellectually dishonest you are and how ineffective you become as someone to have a conversation with.

Sorry (not) for gnawing at your leg again.

I'm 16, and I can safely say, kids my age do start drinking, smoking, and taking drugs, because "it's cool" and "your missing out" or "your a wimp" if you dislike them. It's peer pressure all right. That's a fact. (Although, I do agree that your less likely to get involved in any of those things if you actually have something to do, and ain't "bored" all the time.)

I'm sorry, but the way I see it, and almost every kid sees it is their life got boring and drugs were knocking on their door. Before I smoked pot and was offered to smoke noone was ever saying "oh you're such a wimp!" That's not how it works. If someone offers you to smoke with them and you say no its just like "alright that's cool."

I like to have a taste. My wife and I like red wine (she drinks it almost exclusively), but I also like good beer (Stella Artois is my current choice). Not much for spirits - they hit hard and fast. Don't get drunk, except for the occasional wedding reception or all day football party or some such. One of the best things in life is eating sushi and drinking cold beer. It's never not phenomenal.

Anyway, if you think you drink too much, read Hemingway's "A Moveable Feast". You'll feel like a teetotaler.

I'd forgotted about the peer pressure, honestly. Come to think of it, I probably would have never smoked pot without it. Being older now, I have to deliberately dredge up these memories, but it's quite true. Peer pressure is powerful, sometimes completely irresistible, when the alternative is for your friends to forsake you.

Just remember -- ten years from now you'll hardly remember these people. Seems amazing at the time. But true. Don't sacrifice your own principles for anyone. If they're really friends, they'll still hang out with you even if you won't do their "thang."

Luckily I'm surrounded by a group of good friends with the same principles. And they're very interesting people, it's always fun with them even when only talking. Hundreds of good memories, 0 bad memories. Now that's what I call life.

I debated posting real life advice and experiences on this topic here on a programming board, but obviously finally settled on doing it. Drinking and doing drugs is a double edged sword, and is a far more complicated topic than has been touched upon here. It is said wisely that experience isn't something you have until just after you need it, and couldn't be more true in this case. Going through your life in a haze and stupor, you won't notice how badly you're effing it up until you've already done it. Parties and wild times are all well and good - and god knows I've got stories of my own I'd never tell here - but there's another edge to this sword. It's so easy to do something stupid and funny when you're hammered, but it's just as easy to do something stupid and bad without knowing the difference at the time. Trust me.

Razz mentions having nothing to do but drink. The more you fall into this self-fulfilling prophecy, the worse it will get. The more you drink and do drugs, the more apathetic you will become towards other pursuits. Why expend time end effort finding new things to do when theres something laying in the cupboard that can fill the hole now? Guess what? The more you take the short cut, the harder it becomes to find those simple things in life that once entertained you. And when drugs and alcohol no longer fill the hole - and it does eventually happen - you're left with no options and standing at the bottom of a very dark place.

This isn't the voice of your parents, your pastor, or The Man. This is the voice of experience. I'm can't say drinking is bad. I can't say drugs are bad. They aren't. You're just going to have to be more careful than you realise. You might think you've got it all under control until the day you wake up and your life's in chaos and you can't remember why. Many of you are missing out on some wonderful experiences by not trying these things. Many more are going to have horrible things happen to them and possibly do horrible things by doing these things too much. Only a few of you are going to get the right balance. Not one of you is going to know which one they are until it's all over.

So this question is a difficult one for me to answer. A short time ago the anser was "Constantly", but today the answer is "Never".
