I have also stated that I don't want to take sides in the political debates if prostitution should be legal or illegal, only that I feel that it should be legal since having intercourse with someone, whether it be for money or not, is natural, and such should be a tolerable action.

Perfectly healthy attitude in today's society, I must add.

(not sarcasm... which only enforces the irony)

And how will you prosecute these offenses? I've illustrated the difficulties in doing so if prostitution is legalized.
    No, you really haven't.

Which would violate someone elses rights, and therefore represent a legitimate crime. The same is, of course, not true of consensual sex between two adults.

What I insisted on was that it won't change the nature of the prostitution. It doesn't solve the abuse, and all the evil whatnot.
What abuse? From pimps? Who would work for a pimp taking all their money and beating them up when they could work for a legal company, get benefits, more pay, etc?

Uhuh, but there's both sides of the coin.
Some may; some may not. As for why, I don't feel like going into in-depths discussions.
I'll just be contempt to say that I don't believe it's going to solve all problems.
There will always be people at both sides of the coin.
It may solve some problems; it might be somewhat better; then again, it might not. It's a balanced issue - 50% to each side.

The potential flaw in that reasoning is that you're assuming that these working woman can actually break ties with these pimps without ending up dead in a dumspter. You're also failing to take into account that many prostitutes are addicted to drugs, are young runaways, suffer from disease or have other social failings that would prevent them from working for these potential 'legal companies'. As Elysia seems to suggest, the problem and/or the solution is not so black and white.

Legalization would not exacerbate this situation, only help it. They can't run from pimps to the cops, because they're committing a crime.

Well, I'm for legalizing drugs, too but again, these are problems now. They aren't created by legalizing prostitution. I never said it would rain chocolate and there would be peace on earth and two chickens in every pot if prostitution were legalized.

I imagine I don't really care if they legalize prostitution or not. I don't use them myself, but I don't particularly look down upon others who do. Hell, in one way or another, we all pay for it.

Legalizing drugs? No. Pot, perhaps. But I've seen first-hand what hard drugs such as heroine or meth does to people, regrettably, to some who were close to me and now six feet under. Anyone who touches that stuff can just about kiss a normal life goodbye -

Criminalizing it didn't help those people, and may in fact have hurt them, since it's manufacture and sale are not regulated and usually done by bad people who aren't afraid to cut their smack with rat poison if they can stretch if farther.

It's not like you get hard jail time for turning tricks. I don't think this is the reason why prostitutes fail to report. They fail to report because the pimps will kill them.

Maybe. But legalizing it won't make that situation worse.

I'm not disagreeing at all. People can be sluts no matter what. Just because some money changes hands -- what business is it of mine?
